In 1956, the first generating unit at Duodi Power Station began its trial operation and power generation. Over the past decades, Xizang has achieved a historic transition from power shortages and rationing to surplus electricity export. In 2022, electricity consumption in Xizang reached 11.98 billion kilowatt-hours, with 96.5% of administrative villages connected to the power grid.
